Sudan: security forces open fire to disperse protesters

Security forces in Sudan opened fire and used tear gas to try to disperse large crowds of protesters calling for an end to military rule in the country, a doctors’ organization linked to the protest movement said.

A protester died and several others injured in Omdurman, the second city where protests took place, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said.

Protesters in the capital Khartoum, marched towards the gates of the presidential palace, according to reports.

At least 84 people died since a coup in October ended a power-sharing agreement that was to lead to elections.
