COVID-19: Ghana to fine airlines carrying unvaccinated people

Authorities in Ghana have announced that airlines carrying unvaccinated foreign nationals into the country will be fined $3,500 per passenger, as they are concerned about a surge of infections over the festive period.

The measure that came into effect on Monday aims to tighten the ban on unvaccinated foreign visitors from entering Ghana and, in so doing, curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Ghanaian citizens and residents abroad are exempt from the ban for the next two weeks, but will be required to get vaccinated upon landing at the airport.

“Vaccination will be compulsory for targeted groups including government employees, health workers and students”, the government has also announced.
