Covid-19: South Africa plans to vaccinate 67% of the population

Faced with the urgency of the situation, the South African government intends to obtain doses in order to vaccinate its population against Covid-19.

“We aim for at least a vaccination of 67% of the population, to achieve collective immunity. These vaccines must be available by the end of 2021 ” , indicates the Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, as reported by Rfi.

According to the Minister of Health, South Africa will be able to vaccinate 10% of its population thanks to the Covax device, by the half of the year 2021. In regards to the remaining 57%, the government intends to set up public-private partnerships to succeed in financing its vaccination program.

Let’s note that South Africa has more than one million recorded cases and nearly 30,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, thus flying the record of the most affected country on the continent.
